Design Calculation Steps

Step 1: Determine Limiting Moment (M_u,lim)

First, we check if the section needs to be doubly reinforced by comparing the applied moment to the section's limiting moment capacity.

Step 2: Design for M_u,lim

Calculate the tension steel area (A_st,lim) required to resist the limiting moment.

Step 3: Design for Additional Moment (M_u2)

Calculate the compression steel (A_sc) and additional tension steel (A_st2) required for the balance moment (M_u2 = M_u - M_u,lim).

Step 4: Final Reinforcement Summary

The total required reinforcement is the sum of the components calculated.
