Geological Classification of Stone

Based on their origin of formation stones are classified into three main groups—Igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic rocks.

Igneous Rocks:

These rocks area unit shaped by cooling and activity of the rock lots from their liquefied magmatic condition of the fabric of the world. usually igneous rocks area unit sturdy and sturdy. Granite, lure and volcanic rock area unit the rocks happiness to the present class, Granites area unit shaped by slow cooling of the volcanic rock underneath thick cowl on the highest. thus they need crystalline surface. The cooling of volcanic rock at the highest surface of earth results into non-crystalline and glassy texture. lure and volcanic rock belong to the present class.

Sedimentary Rocks:

Because of weathering action of water, wind and frost existing rocks disintegrates. The disintegrated material is carried by wind and water; the water being most powerful medium. Flowing water deposits its suspended materials at some points of obstacles to its flow. These deposited layers of materials get consolidated harassed and by heat. Chemical agents conjointly contribute to the cementing of the deposits. The rocks therefore shaped ar a lot of uniform, fine grained and compact in their nature. They represent a bedded or stratified structure generally. Sand stones, lime stones, mud stones etc. belong to the present category of rock.

Metamorphic Rocks:

Antecedently shaped igneous and substance rocks beneath go changes because of metamorphic action of pressure and internal heat. for instance because of metamorphic action granite becomes greisses, entice and volcanic rock amendment to metamorphic rock and dirt, lime stone changes to marble, sand stone becomes rock and dirt stone becomes slate.
